Story ideas can pop up when you least expect them. Incessant sometimes and quiet in others. I’m finishing up my Key to the Cursed series. A series that is near and dear to my heart, but I’ll admit I’m having an affair with another story that just won’t seem to let go. Not very helpful when I’m on a timeline. Just when I sit down and write about Kit and Kamen, I find my mind wandering to another fantastic couple in desperate need of saving. Love to rein supreme. Not that I don’t love Kit and Kamen. These two have plenty of problems to work through. The kind of couple that are damaged in their own right, but the answer to their prayers is staring them in the face. All they need to do is take that first step—the step that will change their lives forever.
Life isn’t easy for us, why would it be for the characters of our favorite books. Okay, I’ll confess that I torture mine more than most. But, I love to take something battered and broken and see them pick up the pieces and find happiness. Something I truly believe in no matter the circumstances. It just might not be in the form we expect.
For me inspiration comes from a picture, an event, or my experiences as a nurse – of which are some of the most moving stories. As a nurse, I’ve seen the multiple faces of human nature. Coping – functional and dysfunctional. Life – Loss. Some of the most emotional moments in our lives. Writing is my coping mechanism. It allows me to process those feelings. So writing contemporary, medical or military romance would be perfect for me, right? Nope! I live-sleep-eat paranormal romance. A place I can breach our normal human limits, live beyond our boundaries and where death is only the beginning.
No matter the genre, I bet you enjoy what you read for a reason. Whether facing our fears. Experiencing actions we may feel comfortable doing in real life. Or, just simply adding excitement to our days of monotony.
I don’t think I’m a lone in this. Which genre do you love? Have you ever thought -- why?
What type of characters are you drawn to? Have you read something out of the norm and found that you love it?
Please tell me I’m not alone in this! I would love to hear what you think.
My upcoming release ~ April 1st
Asar, the Egyptian God of the Underworld, has been tortured and left soulless by a malevolent goddess, relegating him to consume the very thing he was commissioned to protect. Human souls. Now an empty shell of hatred, Asar vows to kill the goddess and anyone involved in her release, but fate crosses his path with a beautiful blonde huntress who has a soul too sweet to ignore.
DEADLY SECRETS BETTER LEFT UNEARTHED
Lilly, fearless commander of the Nehebkau huntresses, is the only thing standing in the way of the goddess' undead army unleashing hell on earth. But Lilly has a secret—one she is willing to sell her soul to keep. If the Underworld god discovers her role in the dig that released the goddess, she will lose everything, including his heart.
Night Owl Reviews: Reviewer’s Top PICK / 5 Stars (Abigail, Feb2013) “The first book in the “Key to the Cursed” series was absolutely phenomenal. Anything that deals with old world deities and is written well always hooks me from the get go. This was definitely an excellent book to begin a new series.” http://paranormal.nightowlreviews.com/V5/Reviews/Angibabi4-reviews-Soul-Reborn-by-Jean-Murray
